POKOTABI / Amon
炭火焼肉あもん
At Sumibi Yakiniku Amon in Ikebukuro, diners enjoy carefully sourced Kuroge Wagyu, thick-cut tongue, signature sirloin yaki-shabu, and satisfying finales from pot-cooked rice to chilled noodles.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Thinly sliced prime sirloin, seared in moments over the grill and drawn through tangy ponzu, makes the signature yaki-shabu the natural first order when visiting Sumibi Yakiniku Amon (炭火焼肉あもん). The contrast between sweet, melting fat and a crisp, light finish sets a welcoming tone for the meal to follow.
The beef selection features A5-grade Kuroge Wagyu, including Katsube beef from Shimane Prefecture and Kobe beef, giving diners the chance to compare distinct cuts from richly marbled misuji and zabuton to leaner cuts like kamenoko and shin-shin. Offal choices are equally varied, spanning thick slices of prized tongue base—taken from the few tender portions available per tongue—to meticulously cleaned white omasum sashimi and miso-glazed tecchan. Luxury extends to the appetizers as well, where combinations like loin rolled with sea urchin and accented by salty caviar sit alongside beef sushi.
The substantial selection of rice and noodle dishes designed to accompany or conclude the grilled meats is another compelling highlight. Alongside fluffy white rice prepared in traditional cooking pots, options such as truffle-scented egg-topped rice with rich yolk and sizzling stone-pot garlic rice pick up the lingering flavors of the grilled beef. A choice of noodles—from refreshing chilled reimen to spicy, savory kalbi udon and warm broth noodles—allows diners to shape the finish that best fits the evening.
For those seeking a curated path, set courses such as 'Shimo,' which balances signatures with house favorites, and the lean-focused 'Shu' provide dependable starting points. Guests can settle into the calm interior over charcoal embers with glasses of clean Tora Makgeolli, thoughtfully selected wines, or whisky. Open for both lunch and evening dinner, this Ikebukuro venue stands out whenever you want to take time over quality Japanese beef.
